Text Box: “IT COMES EVERY YEAR - ADVENT”

I would rather drive to Fort Collins than across Denver. It’s not the distance. It’s not the traffic. It’s not the time. The fascination in driving between Aurora and Fort Collins is found in scenery and change. Not just the mountains, but
cornstalks, wheat fields, cattle, farmland being usurped for buildings and parking lots. In my thoughts today are the little green sprouts of winter wheat. Barely above ground only to face frozen roots, snow and the silence of winter waiting and waiting for a new season.
We are entering a new season - kind of weary from a year spent in ministry with its inevitable challenges. Thinking of that points us to Jesus’ word in John 12:24 “I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains a single grain, but if it dies, it bears much fruit.” One kernel of wheat produces a head of wheat with many kernels. One deed of ministry produces many deeds a thank you, a smile, a hug, a contribution for world hunger, a shoebox for ‘Operation Christmas Child,’ a box for a college youth, a quilt and the list goes on. As 2009 comes to a close , God gives us the privilege to do it all over again in 2010.
Pastor Jim’s ministry is laid to rest with him. We share pain and grief. But his legacy becomes the very seed of a new year, new opportunities, new visions.
Advent, historically was a season of penitence, today it is a season of preparation - sowing seed, getting new sprouts ready and waiting for a new harvest. Our prayer is for 2010 to be a fruitful and prolific year of ministry. A year of team work. A year of adventure.
On a personal note, thank you for providing me the privilege to serve with you in this ministry. Unexpected, full of surprise, it yields us the opportunity to explore God’s will for this place.
Memories fade, so please “tell me your name again.” I am delighted to be here, may God bless our time together. I am here Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday (pm), Wednesday, Thursday, (am & pm) and any other time you need me.
