SUMMARY:Reverse Advent Calendar
DESCRIPTION:What is a Reverse Advent Calendar? Traditionally\, Advent calendars are used to count down the days of Advent in anticipation of Christmas. In church we celebrate weekly the themes of Hope\, Peace\, Love\, and Joy as we anticipate God’s gift of Jesus. Most purchased Advent calendars start on December 1 and go until Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. The Advent calendars consist of a series of doors or windows to open\, revealing a picture\, small chocolate or little gift for each day. \nBut the Reverse Advent Calendar is different! Instead of receiving a daily gift\, those taking part in a reverse calendar DONATE an item each day\, thus giving instead of receiving. This year the Social and Eco Justice Ministry is offering a suggestion to participate by following this list of food items to donate to our Little Pantry or the Larimer County Food Bank. \nYou can also do this in a different way. It doesn’t have to be food that you are donating. Maybe put $1 in a basket each day for your reverse advent calendar and then donate the money to our Little Food Pantry. It is also completely fine to add an item every few days or weekly instead of daily. No matter how you choose to participate\, consider doing something small for those in need this Advent season. We are blessed to be a blessing to others as we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. \nPut your food items in a box or bag that can be plain or decorated. You can bring the food items to church weekly or wait until Christmas Eve whichever works best for you. We will have a table in the fellowship room for donations. \nThank you for your participation in this Advent ministry. \nEACH DAY ADD AN ITEM TO A BOX\nDecember 1 – box of cereal or individual oatmeal packages\nDecember 2 – peanut butter\nDecember 3 – individual snack packages or breakfast bars\nDecember 4 – boxed potatoes\nDecember 5 – macaroni and cheese\nDecember 6 – canned\, individual\, or dried fruit\nDecember 7 – canned tomatoes\nDecember 8 – canned meat (tuna\, chicken\, sausages) or jerky\nDecember 9 – dessert mix or pudding cups\nDecember 10 – Individual servings of applesauce or fruit cups\nDecember 11 – individual bags of trail mix or nuts\nDecember 12 – shelf stable boxed milk\nDecember 13 – canned black\, kidney\, pinto\, or refried beans\nDecember 14 – box of or individual packages of crackers\nDecember 15 – package of rice or stuffing mix\nDecember 16 – can of chili\, stew\, or pasta meal (SpaghettiOs or others)\nDecember 17 – package pasta\nDecember 18 – can of spaghetti sauce (*no glass jars)\nDecember 19 – can of chicken\, beef\, vegetable or other soup\nDecember 20 – individual boxes of craisins or raisins\nDecember 21 – can corn\nDecember 22 – can mixed vegetables\nDecember 23 – can carrots or sweet potatoes\nDecember 24 – can green beans \n

Please join us for this special service.  AND THEN…The following weekend Saturday\, October 25 and Sunday\, October 26 (10 am-12 pm-ish)\, we invite you to join an old-fashioned quilting bee in the fellowship hall after each service. Well\, it will actually be a new-fashioned tying bee. We’ll have a couple of quilts ready for you to help us tie them. We’ll have the needles threaded and you just make a loop and tie a knot. It’s simple and fun.

DESCRIPTION:Adult Forum at 9 am in Room 2 (down the East Hallway) or via Zoom HERE. \nOctober 5: We will watch and discuss a portion of a video titled “Faith and Climate Change-Talking with the Five Major Faiths” part of the world-wide Season of Creation. \nOctober 12: Tim Snyder will lead a discussion of the new ELCA social statement “Faith and Civic Life”\, as well as 2025 voter guides\, and faith-based advocacy opportunities through our national\, regional and local church bodies. \nOctober 19: ADVENTURES IN WONDER-LAND This 301 Faith Community Adult Forum will be convened in Room 2 by Jane Reina\, Florian Hild\, and James Gearhart around Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “thin tradition of a theology of the cross” which challenges us to wonder together about everything\, including ‘who is Christ for us today’\, who are we\, and what’s moved our own faith journey needles\, etc. \nOctober 26: BAD RELIGION Bad Religion not only prompted both Luther and Bonhoeffer to call out their church\, but also that which prompts us to consider Luther’s notion that ‘the church’ needs to be always reforming and always adapting to the truths of its contemporary context. Discussion led by James Gearhart and Kevin Mabry.

Please join us for this special service.  AND THEN…The following weekend Saturday\, October 25 and Sunday\, October 26\, we invite you to join an old-fashioned quilting bee in the fellowship hall after each service. Well\, it will actually be a new-fashioned tying bee. We’ll have a couple of quilts ready for you to help us tie them. We’ll have the needles threaded and you just make a loop and tie a knot. It’s simple and fun.
